Importance Of Conducting Veteran Assistance And Awareness

By Kimberly Wood

There are many careers which people pursue in their lives. Some careers involve serving others directly while others involve working with machines for a lifetime. Military for instance, is one of the careers that involve laying down your life for the well-being of your country. The country in return is charged with the responsibility of seeing that your life during and after the service is comfortable and secure. To do this, it is vitally important for the government to have in place veteran assistance and awareness programs.

When these heroes were serving, they were entitled to several benefits some of which, are to be disbursed after retirement. An effective system should therefore be set in place to help them access these benefits. Having such organizations at county and state level will make the process very fast.

The government should hire highly trained professional advocates to assist them whenever they visit the offices. One qualification that these professionals should have is an understanding of the challenges that their clients went through during their tenure in the military service. In addition to that, they should be in a position to relate well with the challenges which their dependents face in their day to day lives.

The officers should undergo regular training programs to equip them with the relevant knowledge about the law: extent, meaning and application of the laws, in order to comply with what the Congress has passed concerning the veterans. It is also their duty as the officers to know and understand the rules and regulations governing the departments which deal with their affairs.

A body of experts who are aware of the benefits entitled to the veterans need to be hired to assist them in making applications for their benefits. These experts should be supplied with relevant information which they might need to enhance the process. They also need to be permitted to access all military records for their clients as it will help them make applications correctly.

The government should also consider setting up therapy centers for them. Therapeutic services will help them cope with the numerous challenges that with changes of environment, bearing in mind that they had gotten used to the life in camps. It is good to note that some of them leave military with very traumatizing scenes which, if not handle properly may ruin their social life.

In addition to that, their dependents should be trained on how to live and cope with them. A lot of the retirees from military may find it a little hard to cope with individuals who have never had a military experience. It may therefore be hard for their dependents to claim back the relationship which they had with them unless they have been put through programs aimed at training them on how to live with ex-military people.

Life after serving in military should something one should look forward to. However, unless such measures are put in place, it can be a nightmare for most individuals. A good government will definitely cater for her citizens who offered their lives for the welfare of others.
