Reasons To Advocate For Pre K For All In Astoria NY

The window of opportunity for children to learn basic lessons is finite. They have to be introduced to certain lessons by the time they are five or six if teachers and parents want those lessons to take hold in their minds. Kindergarten alone may not be enough for some kids to grasp onto basic instruction, however. They need to attend preschool in order to succeed. Because of that, it could be best to offer pre K for all in Astoria NY.

Preschool is targeted toward children who are five years of age and under. Most kids who start preschool typically do so when they are three or four years old. In some instances, however, even two year olds might be accepted to some programs. The basic requirement for most programs is for the child to be potty trained and capable of following simple rules given out by the teacher.

These factors are some that parents can control to some degree. However, they may lack control over whether or not their children have learning or behavioral challenges, which is a basis for admittance for many public school programs. They also might not be able to influence how much they earn each year. Economically disadvantaged families often get first pick of being enrolled in preschools.

Some programs will accept what they call role model students, who act as role models to their peers. Even so, the number of slots open for role models is rather small. Unless their child makes the cut, parents often have to wait until their child starts kindergarten before sending them to school. This idea may be unbearable for parents who want to give their kids every educational advantage.

The idea of making available such programs to all students in this age demographic could be an advantage to all children regardless of economic background or learning needs. Children would have the opportunity to learn everything they need to know well before they actually begin kindergarten. They also would have the chance to make friends their own age, which can make socialization easier.

Despite many cities pushing for this initiative, some taxpayers are not completely on board with it yet. Specifically, they do not want their money going to pay for public education programs that are outside of the normal curriculum. They do not see the need to give money to preschools for everyone.

Perhaps some could be swayed if they are told the students of today will become taxpayers of tomorrow. With more of an educational advantage, these pupils could go on to earn higher salaries and thus relieve taxpayers of some of the burden. Further, they will be the ones influencing the economy in the future. Their educational foundation could provide the basis for a healthy economy later.

Regardless, pre K for all in cities across the country could pay off for kids today and tomorrow. They all would have the chance to learn basic lessons before they reach kindergarten. They would all be on the same learning level once they formally enter the public education system. The window of opportunity for learning is limited, which is why preschool could be a benefit to most kids.
