Questions To Ask King Charles Spaniels Breeders

By Anthony Powell

Keeping pets has become very common in many homes today. The most common pet in almost every home is a dog which is often referred to as the best friend to man. To make sure you have the best pet you need to be sure you have purchased it from the right breeder. Many companies do not take a keen interest in raising quality puppies. There are several questions you need to ask the King Charles Spaniels breeders before you take their puppy home.

Find out if the company has registered the parents of your puppy. By using the registered names, you will be able to find from the internet all the information about them. Find out if they suffered from any hereditary diseases that could have been passed to the young one. Bodies like the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals will ensure that this information is available. You would not want to deal wit a pet that is a not healthy. If the company is not cooperating you should know something is not right and decide otherwise.

The breeder who you get should also be in the position to provide the birth dates of the puppy. This is because according to the breeding protocol, the King Charles spaniel puppies should not be breed before the parents attain the age of 5 years. Here you will be able to know if the breeder was accurate and if the information is not available, you should then consider getting the pet from another breeder.

Mitral Valve Disease breeding protocol requires that all animals should be tested and you should buy one that has been tested and passed the test. You will not be able to tell if you just get a verbal confirmation that this has been done. The best is to ask for a certificate signed by the examining body to confirm the position.

You should also ask to be shown the OFA certificate that certifies that the parents have gone through the hip x-ray at the age of two. The results of this x-ray cannot be correct unless the dog is two years old. Due to the high demand, some companies will carry the test before that time. Make sure a vet has seen and given the nod to the certificate.

Many diseases and infections are passed from the parents to the puppy. This is why you should make sure that the parents of your puppy are tested especially on the knees. If there is no problem, you can be free to take your pet home, but if the vet says that there is a problem, you should reconsider having the pet.

Eyesight is not something that can be assumed. It is important for the parents to go through the general eye complication tests; so that you are sure your pet will be ok. The test should be carried out a year before breeding. When you see, the examination report is when you know that the test has been performed.

A puppy if one of the best companions you can have. This is why you should make sure that you get one, which is tested and proven to be healthy. Ensure that you check all the certificates to see if the necessary test and vaccinations are there including ear testing and blood testing.
