Guide To Use When Making A PA Clothing Donation

By Carol Edwards

There is no need to keep clothes that you are no longer using. Not if there are so many people that can make good use of those clothes. Therefore, if you have a tonne of things that are just sitting in your wardrobe, it is time that you considered giving them out. Here are some tips on how to make a PA clothing donation.

Think about which organizations can take the used clothes. You can donate to one organization or to more than one. Deciding which organization to donate to will help you familiarize yourself with what their giving rules are. You will also know what they can and cannot take. Due to logistical reasons, it will be helpful if you find organizations to give to where you are instead of giving stuff away to organizations in far off places.

You then need to decide what you want to give away. Generally, anything that you have not worn in a long time should be given away. Any clothes that you have outgrown or have become too large for you should be given away. Just keep in mind that you need to give things that can still be used not stuff that is damaged beyond repair or too old or stained.

Sort out the items that you want to give away. This will make the work of the organizations so much easier. Consider that the organization has to go through hundreds of stuff that they have been given every day. So, your sorting out the items will make it so much easier for them to classify the items. Sort by age, season, gender or type of clothes.

Donate to a legitimate charity, so that you can get tax deductions. This requires that you keep a record of the stuff you are giving away and how much they are worth. The organization can give you more advice on how to go about this issue.

Launder the items first before you pack them up. Unwashed laundry can make all the clothes have a bad odor and this can, make them repugnant for other people to take. Some charitable organizations might that you dry clean the items or even machine wash them first before donating. This will save them the hassle of having to do so themselves.

For unique clothes or sensitive clothes, don't stuff them in with the rest of your stuff. What you need to do is to find organizations that specialize in taking those kinds of clothes. This includes stuff such as wedding dresses, prom dresses and tuxedos.

Doing all this will require lots of time, particularly if you have a lot of stuff or if you have a big family. You therefore need to be patient with yourself, so that you can get through the process. This means setting aside a reasonable amount of time, so that you can accomplish this task. Do this when you are off work, such as on a weekend.
