Free-range pigs are also called pastured whereas to those kept in sheds throughout are referred to factory farm pigs. Apart from the rearing difference, the animals give different end products that come with varying benefits after their consumption. Although it is difficult for you to distinguish products from each other, you can tell by tasting them. The upbringing of pigs in factory farms has proved to be unethical and unhealthy for most people who see the animals on a daily basis as they go around their businesses. Although the animals look dirty and make you feel like you would never want to eat them, they have a lot of health benefits and are good for commercial purposes.

Pig products are full of healthy fats unlike fats obtained from other animals. Their fats nutrient content is similar to the fats produced from avocados and olive oil which are classified as healthy fats. As such, they eliminate the possibility of antibiotic resistance in your body since they never use them in their lives like those from factories.

Taking care of pigs is not a simple task. They are dirty and hygienic measures of high standards need to be taken. The droppings smell awful and have to be collected by a few individuals under your payroll. Farmers who keep free-range pigs have no expenses for collecting the droppings and experience no bad smell since the pigs drop their thing randomly in the farm improving the fertility levels of the soil.

Pigs are locked up in a single room in factory farms where they can hardly get an opportunity to exercise or get exposure to the sun. As such, they are prevented from having a natural diet, and provision of clean, fresh air. Such conditions predispose them to diseases and dirty environment that makes the thought of eating them look hilarious.

Maintaining indigenous breeds is a responsibility for everyone. The haste and greed for money have led to the abandonment of this breeds which have their advantages too. For instance, they hardly get sick, rarely succumb to droughts, and give delicious products than other animals. As such, you should keep the heritage breed.

People who are affected by red meat or want to protect their hearts from the effect of cholesterol should not hesitate to eat pork. However, ensure that you know the source of the pigs before rushing into butchery and purchasing them. Consumption of pork from pigs that have used antibiotics for their entire lives is a life threatening danger for you.
