Hotel Secrets To Get The Most Out Of Your Stay

By Sammy Sheilds

Hotels may be something you need at some point in your life. A lot of people have a bad hotel experience because they didn't research for information ahead of time. Luckily, you have come to the right place. This article contains several tips to improve your stay during your next vacation.

Use online travel sites, such as Expedia and Orbitz, to find the best prices at the hotels you want to stay at. Are you a member of a certain hotel's membership program? If so, make sure you put this information into the travel site. Don't neglect to check for other discounts in which you may qualify, including AAA and AARP.

If you belong to any organizations, check with them for travel deals. Many of them offer hotel discounts to members. These discounts are often forgotten about, and they can provide significant savings. These discounts can save you quite a bit of cash, particularly if your stay involves several nights. That can give you close to a completely free night when it adds up.

What groups are you a member of? Some may offer discounts on hotels. Many people forget to do this and miss out on saving a sizable amount of money. If your stay will be for multiple nights, these discounts can save you lots of money. This can also net you a free hotel night.

Check your hotel room prior to unpacking. Is the room clean? Does the plumbing work right? Are there enough of the right linens? If you have any questions or notice any problems with the room, immediately call the front desk and report them so that they may be handled. You may also asked to be transferred to a new room if the problem is serious, such as mold or mildew.

Ask the hotel about their check-in time.. Sometimes there are people that don't know when the room will be ready and so they aren't sure of what to do with the extra time they have since they can't check in. Call the hotel if you are early and find out if your room is ready.

Although many hotels have certain rooms that allow pets, never assume your hotel will without researching ahead of time. Even if a web listing says a hotel is pet friendly, call the hotel to verify. Be certain you understand all rules pertaining to pets. Some hotels only allow certain types, sizes and breeds.

There are three things to do ahead of time if you want to bring your pet to a hotel with you. First, ensure that the hotel actually allows pets. Take some bags to clean after your pet. When you go to make the hotel reservation, see if there is room on the end that would prevent the other guests from hearing a noisy pet.

Book massages as early as possible. Many of the top masseuses out there are booked far ahead of time.

If you want to take your pet along on a trip, take care of three tasks before you leave. Be sure that this hotel will be friendly to pets. Take some bags to clean after your pet. When you go to make the hotel reservation, see if there is room on the end that would prevent the other guests from hearing a noisy pet.

To keep from having an unwanted major expense on your hotel bill, ask about the cost of hotel transfers before booking them. If you're getting what appears to be a nice deal on the room, these types of hidden charges can sometimes surface. You save the most money when you ask about this beforehand.

If you do a great deal of traveling, consider joining hotel chain loyalty programs. By joining a membership program, you earn points during every visit. These points can add up to free items over time.

Membership programs offered by hotel chains help members who travel a lot get the best rooms during their stay. You will build up points with that hotel for added benefits. It works a lot like frequent flier miles do for airlines.

You can get great hotel discounts by becoming a member of AAA. AAA offers their members good discounts on hotels, car rental and other aspects of travel. It is definitely worth looking into.

If you smoke, learn the smoking policy of the hotel where you are staying. Many have designated rooms for smokers. If your selected hotel does, ask for one. Some hotels charge large penalties if they find that smoking occured in a room not designated for it, so make sure you follow the hotel's smoking rules.

You should understand that early check-ins to hotels are not usually possible. Plan for this, or you may risk waiting in the hotel lobby for an hour or more. Hotels need this time to clean and prepare your room. If you arrive earlier than your check-in time, you can always ask the front desk and see if they can let you in.

When checking your hotel accommodations for bed bugs, begin in the bathroom. This is where you are least likely to find bedbugs. That is what makes it the best place to start. You can store your luggage there and search the rest of your room for those bedbugs. It's also a safe spot for kids and pets to sit for a bit too.

For hygienic purposes, you may want to avoid using the bedspread that the hotel provides. Most hotels only wash the sheets on the bed; however, the bedspread is normally not washed. This bedspread is where you would find the bacteria and germs. Take the bedspread off of the bed.

Stay away from the bottled water! Sure, you're thirsty and hot. This can tempt you to consume bottles of water from the mini-fridge. Hotels are counting on this, and they jack up the price of the water accordingly. Some hotels offer complementary bottles of water in their gyms. Or, just bring some of your own from home.

Research is a must before you book a hotel room. You will find the above tips to be helpful when searching for a hotel. Have a great time!
