Seven Simple Rules On How To Clean A Wetsuit To Ensure Its Longevity

By Christine Stewart

A wetsuit can be quite costly. So you need to look for a way that you can use the suit for a long time. One of the ways that these suits get damaged is by being cleaned and managed poorly. You cannot wash these suits in the normal way that you wash your clothes. They are sensitive and they need to be well managed. The article will inform you of the seven rules on how to clean a wetsuit.

You should rinse the suit immediately after surfing. Rinse the suit with pure water. The water should be fresh. Do not use saline water. Rinsing the suit after surfing removes sticky elements on the suit. Some of these elements might create stains that are hard to wash. You should rinse both sides. Most people forget to rinse the inner part of the suit, which is not a good thing.

The material that makes a lot of these suits is stretchy. After you have rinsed the suit, you should allow it to dry. To dry the suit, make sure that you fold it at the waist and put it on a heavy hanger that can contain the weight of the suit. If you fail to adhere to this, and hang it by the shoulders, the suit will stretch.

These suits should be cleaned once in a while. Use detergents that are specifically made to wash these suits. These detergents not only clean the suit but also disinfect it. They prevent your skin from getting disease associated with dirt and other elements. These detergents are not harsh on the fabrics; thus, there is no bleaching effect. If you wash your suit with standard cleaning agents, it will bleach and tear easily.

This type of suits is, however, known to lose their flexibility when exposed to the sun. This is because of the UV rays produced by the sun. Remember, suit flexibility is needed when swimming or surfing. Also, when such suits lose flexibility, they age fast. To prevent this, avoid exposing your suit to the sun.

Almost every suit has a zipper. The more you use the suit, the higher the chances that it will get stuck at one point. Chlorine and salt can lead to the corrosion of the teeth of the zipper. So to ensure that the sipper is working effectively, try as much as possible to rinse the suit after use. Also, you should use a zipper lubricant to make it move with ease.

Because you use the suit in water that may not be fresh, it tends to get an odor. You need to deal with this odor. After cleaning the suit, it is advisable to soak the suit in an odor remover element. You should also use perfumed elements to clean the suit. This will remove all the bad odors in the suits.

If you enjoy surfing in your suit, you need to take good care of it. Do not expose your suit to too much sun since it will get damaged. Rinse your suit immediately after surfing. Was your suit once in a while. Do not iron your suit and use cleaning agents that are precisely made to clean these types of suits.
