How To Use Ultra Dark Tanning Lotion

By Haywood Hunter

If a person wants a tan but they are worried about the sun's damaging their skin, they do have other options. Using an ultra dark tanning lotion is one of these options. Rather than exposing yourself to harmful rays and risking the damage to the skin, you can use a product that colors the skin in an easy and more healthy way. More and more people are choosing this option in order to prevent damaging their skin.

Choose the color that you want. Once you have your product, bring it home and read through the directions. This will alert you to any extra steps or precautions that should be taken. For a few days before you tan moisturize the skin well. This will get skin in its best condition which results in a better look. You want the best foundation possible for your tan.

Make sure you have adequate time to complete the process. You should not attempt to begin this when you are in a hurry. You want time to apply the product and time for it to dry. Any time you must rush off to work or a date, save this project for another day. Give yourself time to follow all of the steps well and to allow the color to dry.

Whether or not any special prep work must be done beforehand is another query that is often asked. Leading up to the day that you tan, you will want to apply moisturizer to your body. Begin this about a week ahead of time. On the day that you plan to tan you should shower and exfoliate. Exfoliating removes dead and dry skin. This results in a smoother look once you are done. It is the way to avoid a blotchy looking finish.

Use even strokes when you apply the product. It is a good idea to begin on your legs and work your way up. Be sure that you are using smooth strokes as you apply. Take your time and be thorough during this step so your tan will be even. Rushing through and not paying close attention could result in streaks.

Wash your hands right away. Your palms will grab a lot of color, for this reason wash them immediately. Leave the bottoms of your feet uncolored.

Now that you know how to apply the product, the next most common question is are there any areas that you should not tan. There are two spots that you should avoid applying color to. One is the bottom of the feet and the other is your palms. Since you will likely be using your hands in the application process, be sure to thoroughly wash them as soon as you are finished.

You will likely need a few applications of your ultra dark tanning lotion to get the shade that you want. You may want to apply this every other day the first week. After this you can do a maintenance application to keep the color looking deep and tan. This will fade over time if you do not keep up with it. Generally your tan will begin to fade within a week if you do not follow through with maintaining the color. Keep your skin well moisturized between applications.
