What You Need To Know When Buying Continental Aircraft Engine Parts

By Frank Campbell

An airplane will only be as good as its parts. The moment it starts to sputter, you as the owner know that there is a problem. In some cases, the damage might be repairable, while in others, you may simply need to get a replacement. Most people will only look at old or new alternatives. However, you also have the option of getting remanufactured Continental aircraft engine parts. Here, is what you should know before you make your decision.

Damaged machines are only thrown away after all their working items have been salvaged. When remanufacturing engines, the old systems are taken and then dismantled. They are cleaned, and this reveals the parts that may be damaged and in need of replacement. The replacement is typically done with new or old working parts, and then the system is tested for efficiency before it can be sold.

Aircraft parts differ, and you have to remember this. Therefore, start by looking for manufacturers who make systems for your plane model. While in some cases these parts can be interchanged, this will be difficult if you own a rarer model. You should cover all your bases, by looking at different manufacturers located in your locality and beyond.

Although there may be numerous people making and selling these items, it is best to buy from a well-known vendor. This should be someone who has been in this business for long, uses qualified technicians and is known for selling good quality engines. Otherwise, you might end up paying a lot of money for something mediocre.

This engine will not come cheap, but that does not mean that it should be overpriced either. Talk to different vendors, both in person and online to see what their rates are. With these figures, you can calculate the average to determine how much you will spend. Having this average will also help you negotiate, in situations where the prices are not fixed.

If you are lucky, you might find that your chosen vendor had an office or a sales representative located near you. However, the distance should not be an issue. Most sellers will have no problem delivering your purchase to you or a previously specified mechanic. You will also find that in most cases they handle the freight charges.

A guarantee should be offered to you once you make this purchase and this should not just be oral. Make sure that you thoroughly read the document, to know the things to avoid that could potentially compromise this guarantee. The quality of the system determines the duration of the warranty, but in most cases, it will be about four years.

Once this part has been delivered to you, ensure that you have the right person to handle its installation. This can be the person who regularly services your helicopter or an expert recommended by the manufacturer. Keep in mind that the installations charges will be separate from the purchase.
