Help A Child Learn To Spell When You Encourage Reading

By Barbara Morgan

Sometimes it seems that young people are losing the ability to communicate effectively. Texting abbreviations have resulted in a whole new language of acronyms that make adults cringe. For parents who wish to combat this tendency, they are encouraged to create an environment conducive to basic reading.

There is nothing wrong with slang or abbreviated language as an aside, but this is becoming the total of the language that young people use. This means their ability to spell has declined, and their powers of basic comprehension are stunted. There are already generations of adults who are functionally illiterate, and this is only getting worse.

Taking in a book on a rainy day can be like going on an adventure without ever leaving the room. Playing video games or watching television does not impact the creative imagination in a way that a good book can. Potential employers are not going to care what a young person watches or what games they play, but they will be effected by the presence of typographical errors on their resume.

Children who are read to when they are young are more interested in learning what books are all about. Young people who see their parents read on a regular basis typically have a greater interest books as they grow older. They can be encouraged to read either by their desire to please their parents, or by the fact that they have parents who continue to show an interest in learning new things well into adulthood.

A child with excellent grammatical skills will always have an edge over others, throughout their lives. It makes learning easier, and ease of learning will make school more enjoyable for them in the long run. Young people who enjoy learning are much more likely to go on to seek an education from a university, and this can result in a more rewarding and successful career.

Even those who do not go to college experience the benefits of a basic love of learning that can only be instilled in a person who reads. A life rich in knowledge is a life full of opportunity, and we all respect these self made men and women who continue to show this lust for life long after their school years. Maintaining a love of learning throughout our life makes us happier and more fulfilled as adults.

With the World Wide Web one might want to assume that more people are actively engaged in the pursuit of knowledge for knowledge sake. This has unfortunately not been the case, as so many people do waste their time on gaming, pornographic addiction that harms their relationships, and other junk food for their brains. Young people are growing up watching their parents dumb themselves down.

If we continue on this road, it begs one to imagine what our grandchildren and great grandchildren will be like, and what sort of a world will come out of this. The Dark Ages which came after the Renaissance occurred, in part, due to the Church prohibiting people from being educated. It would seem that we are on the very brink of a self-created Dark Age.
