Making The School Transition With Learning Songs For Kindergarten And 1st Grade

By Cynthia Young

Children do their best when their parents show some type of interest in their studies. However, it is important to learn different methods and techniques that you can utilize to get your child interested in the sciences. It can start at a very young age and utilizing learning songs for kindergarten and 1st grade.

It does not necessarily have to be in your childs classroom. Classroom volunteers help educators on a day to day basis. The volunteers are primarily needed during their primary years. The helpers assist with reading, writing, math, and a variety of tasks in the classroom.

It will be up to you to make sure each assignment is done on time. It is quite natural for a child beginning first grade not to be excited about the extra homework and the longer hours that they have to put into academic assignments. The good news is that you, as the parent, can create your own homework schedule and routine to help your child get excited about learning.

Activities that are not mandatory and occur outside the school setting are excellent ways to help children develop an interest in mathematics, science, engineering, and technology. Take your child to the museums, science centers, planetariums, and aquariums. You can also select a topic that your child is passionate about or enjoys discussing. Go to the library and look online together for information about the topic. Work together to create an informative and fun collage. Be sure to include pictures and illustrations which the child can draw, or find in a magazine.

Homework is not only a time for first graders to practice what they are learning in school, it is also the perfect time for parents to talk to kids about their day and how school is going. Always set a special time for these talks and actually listen to what your child is saying. Listen and ask questions; be sure to focus on the positive things that are going on in school. Remain positive and upbeat while helping a child with homework, no matter how frustrating it can be at times.

Volunteers usually commit to spending regular periods of time in school each week. However, the time can vary from minutes to an hour a day at most. Many schools prefer not to place children in a room with their parents. Children seem to do better when they are not learning in a structured environment under their parents supervision. However, there are other school personnel that do not mind having the parents in the same classroom as the students; it can vary from school to school.

Teachers who have classroom support also do their job better. And parents who participate in the classroom are better equipped to support their childs schoolwork. It is a good idea to find time to spend at your childs school helping out. The child with the parent that volunteers is more likely to excel and succeed in school.

Moving from one grade to the next is a big step. However, it does not have to be life changing. It is just opening up the next chapter and your child is moving to the next phase in life.
