Stalking Techniques For Hog Hunt Texas

By Laura Stewart

The spring attracts thousands of visitors and locals who come in Texas to have a share of the many hogs that come feeding to anything available in the farms. The state does not have stringent restrictions towards the hunt down of wild pigs making it an interesting activity during these months. However, without skills and the best hunting tools, the expedition cannot bear any fruits. The following blog post discusses different stalking methods that can make hog hunt Texas enjoyable.

Hogs are an excellent delicacy in spite of their destructive nature. Their skin is used for making leather products which makes them a good spot for hunting. Moreover, most states including Texas have liberal regulations towards their hunting which makes them a good target. Whichever the case, a hunter must confirm whether a license is required to be safe from lawsuits.

When stalking the animals, a hunter has to understand that they get preoccupied during feeding time and are near-sighted. This makes their stalking easier especially for people who have hunted whitetails before. However, these few negatives do not make them weak because they have a perfect sense of smell and their ears are sharp. For a great hunting experience, people should stalk them while avoiding the windward side to prevent the hogs from picking your scent.

How are these animals challenged yet they can smell anything that is some hundred meters away? Visit the target site early when the winds are cool and let your scent spread until they forget of your presence. As such, it will be so easy for anyone hunting them to strike without their awareness hence increasing the chances of capturing them.

How does a hunter find the hogs? Their signs are unmistakable since they live their trails wherever they go. Their trails are similar to cattle whereby they can be differentiated by looking whether there are uprooted plants along the trail. Any fresh rooting that looks like turkey scratching will be a positive indicator that they are within the area. Just follow the trail and look out for their hideouts.

Shooting blindly at these hogs might not do a hunter any good. Until certain parts are hit, they will run with the bow on their bodies without any effect. Go to its opposite side and aim the arrow at its shoulders or the lower parts. Moreover, if the state allows guns for hunting, they may be used in hitting the head. Such hits kill them instantly saving you time and efforts used in fighting them down.

In case guns and bows are hard to access, baits may come in handy. The baits are easily set at the areas they frequent most or closer to their hiding areas. However, they do not fall for anything since they only run for plants that have some mints. Their excretion products must be placed nearby because that is the only way they identify safe grounds.

First-time hunters might have a rough time identifying the whereabouts of the boars. Use the local guides to establish a safe hunting ground. Also, carry some binoculars to assist in spotting the hogs.
