Laser Therapy For Ankle Sprain Is The Key

Nobody likes to be injured to the point where taking a simple step causes extreme pain. One of the most common injuries found around the world is also known as a sports injury. This injury is often caused by quickly twisting the joint of the ankle. Individuals who are in severe pain may consider laser therapy for ankle sprain as an option.

Sometimes the pain feels like it is resonating on the outside of the injured area, but it is really originating from the joint. Mild cases sometimes don't even show bruising or swelling, but minor pain due to ligaments being compressed. Symptoms often vary from being mild to severer. Individuals whose case may be mild can continue to function the rest of their lives, whereas those with major injuries might have to be hospitalized.

The severity of this kind of sprain can oftentimes be put on a grading system. Those that have mild pain, a little stiffness, and maybe a little problem when it comes to walking, can still participate in activities. Minor tearing may have occurred with ligaments which resulted in mild swelling of the area. This is known as grade 1.

When a person has a grade 3 injury, they are in very severe pain. When athletes experience this type of pain, they are not able to participate in any sport. This is usually accompanied by stiffness, swelling, and possibly bruising. There has been some form of moderate tearing and there is no stability in the joint itself. Severe pain is often felt due to a complete rupture that has occurred within the ligament. The pain is sometimes extreme.

There is not only ligament damage, but other damages as well. This can range from damaged joint capsules, cartilage, tissues, and tendons. Dislocation is most likely the result of ligaments that have been completed ruptured. There may even be a fractured bone which is quite common in some instances.

Fractures usually occur when a ligament tears away a very small piece of a bone. Usually this is not known unless a injury does not heal in a specific amount of time. Sometimes osteochondral lesions occur when the cartilage lining the top of a talus bone is torn.

Swelling is reduced when laser therapy is used because of the increase of the lymphatic flow. Blood flow is also increased which aids in nutrients being sent to different areas of tissue to speed repair. It is also helpful because it removes damaged tissue.

The body's natural process of healing itself also speeds up. This means that a person can move to rehabilitation possibly sooner than expected. Very mild sprains have been known to see improvement after 3 to 5 visits. Pain reduction also occurs due to the formation of prostagladin.

Laser therapy is a great asset to the process of healing and has been known to be used by athletes all over the world. Athletes that may suffer from these sprains can take comfort in knowing that there is help for their minor or severe ankle injury.
