What To Know About SUP Yoga

By Maria Hill

Stand up paddle boards have a great deal to offer people in the many different ways people can use this wonderful water sports equipment. SUP yoga is what people who are truly serious about this call this art. This is just one of the many fun things that people can do on a stand-up paddle board.

In order to achieve the level of relaxing ambiance that is required for this experience, a proper location must be established. Depending on where you live, there may be a number of good options applicable for you. Usually, a lake that is relatively calm or the bay of the ocean is ideal, but you can also do this in a slow moving river.

No matter what your experience level is, you will be able to have some fun with this activity and not have to spend the time belly flopping onto the water and getting it all up your nose. One of the hard things about a lot of sports is that they are only for people who have devoted their whole life to be good at them. With this, you can hop on the board and pick it up at any time.

It was the people of Waikiki who stood up on their surfboards who first pioneered this practice and made it available to more contemporary enthusiasts who have made it what it is today. They did this so that they could find their way over the tumultuous ocean waves. These people also usually held a paddle of quite a great length.

A big reason why a lot of people have embraced this practice is that it is such a unique opportunity for people to improve their health in so many different way that include both mentally and physically. Usually, when people are doing this form of therapeutic movement, they are stuck on the ground. This makes it so you are actually floating on the water.

It may seem ironic that there are many positions to do on a stand-up paddle board that involves being in the sitting position. There are many benefits to be derived from doing these which are much easier for people to achieve than that of the standing positions because of the easier level of these poses. One of the popular ones is called Ardha Matsyendrasana.

A big part of a lot of these exercises involves a lot of balance and opening up your chest. The bow pose, more traditionally known as Dhanurasana, is a common one which focuses on both of those aspects. The great thing about being on the relaxing water setting is that it helps you to open your chest.

One of the most stable poses out there to do on the board is called Adho Mukha Svanasana, which is the traditional name given for this pose. This name may sound intimidating, but it merely means downward facing dog. This is much more familiar to many, and it is similarly done on the board.
